This is the 8th year that evopro is the main sponsor of the increasingly popular PLC Competition.
The National Control Technology Programming Competition was held on April 3-5. for the 19th time, this year at the campus of the Kandó Kálmán Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Óbuda University. The goal of the traveling competition is manifold: to raise the quality of education in the area of control technology, and more specifically, PLC programming; to help gain experience with the latest control technology devices; to promote competitive spirit and cooperation between the students; and last but not least to recognize and award the work of students. The evopro group has been a devoted supporter of the prestigious competition for almost a decade now. As the main sponsor of the event the evopro group has also provided the technology for the competition this year.
Altogether 19 teams have entered the competition: besides the engineering students of several Hungarian higher education institutions the students of the Polytechnic College of Szabadka (Subotica) have also taken part. After the first round featuring theoretical problems the students competed in two rounds of PLC programming – the technology for the first task was supplied by evopro, the main sponsor. During the task the students had to create the control for the 3D simulated model of a package delivery system. The simulation was created by the Siemens NX Mechatronics Concept Designer software and it connected to an actual interface PLC with a Simatic NET OPC server utilizing 16 digital input-output buses. The task was to create an automated packager sorter that directed packages to their correct destinations based on generated codes coming from a barcode scanner and an X-ray machine. The task was won by students of the Mihály Pollack Engineering Faculty of the University of Pécs.
The National Control Technology Programming Competition will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2014. On this occasion the host of the competition will be the University of Miskolc which will be a worthy commemoration of the father of the competition, Dr. István Ajtonyi, who has started this competition - which has since became a tradition - 20 years ago from that university.
