As one of the last steps of the South African project our colleagues have prepared the future operators of the system on-site during a multiday training course. At the Kaya Sands site of Siemens the technicians learned about the architecture of the system, about the Simatic S7 hardware components used in it, and about the parameters that can be set for the various program modules. The customer has examined and tried out the test station that was built with actual hardware elements which also helped to validate the software package for South Africa.
The team in Braunschweig has been in almost constant contact with the configuration team in South Africa throughout the project and they carried out the necessary modifications in the modules based on the feedback they received. After the testing phase the corrected version was taken over by the projecting team. The final version was released only after the full validation of the software package was completed in the spring of 2008. From that point on the local project team took over the responsibilities. The first three SICAS S7 signaling systems were installed in spring; these will be followed by 17 others. The team in Braunschweig continues to provide help to the South African project while at the same time it also adapts the SICAS S7 software package to other countries’ railway rules.vopro Ltd. has been taking part in the software development of the Siemens Sicas S7 (Siemens Computer Aided Signaling) system and in its adaptation to the South African railway rules since 2006.
